RELIC SUSPENSION LOG.01

Relic Suspension began as Assi Abogado’s finsta, a personal space for collecting images, references, and fragments, and gradually evolved through their collaboration with Nathaniel Enriquez into a lovingly self-funded, DIY platform based in Dubai, UAE, working across exhibitions, artistic research, sound, and material inquiry.

Relic Suspension aims to evolve into an independent studio platform for (in)formal practices across art, design, music, and publishing. Built from personal processes and collaborative gestures, it will grow into a space that produces limited-run objects, curates experimental projects, and facilitates gatherings shaped by reflection and shared making.

Our symbol depicts a figure folding into itself.

The face and hands suggest the shape of an R, the legs form an S. Later, directly referencing the figures found on the Manunggul Jar, a prehistoric burial vessel from the Philippines dating back to 710-890 BC.

Those figures represent a journey or passage, akin with our focus on looking back and holding structures of the past.

The logo started as a study of the Angono Petroglyphs, a site near where Assi Abogado grew up. The forms from these carvings became a reference point, something to revisit and work with. Over time, this developed into a simplified figure in a fetal position reflect our method having a starting point and always in rest between stages.

The logotype for Relic Suspension emerged through slow, material-led experiments using India ink on translucent paper.
Its form developed through the process, by allowing the ink to bleed and settle introduced unprecedence and irregularity.

Relic Suspension exists to gather and platform bespoke, process-based practices across making: through art, design, music, and publishing and so forth. Its mission is to increase the visibility and resonance of experimental creative output from the region and beyond.

Rooted in reflection and experience, the platform approaches creative work like an archaeologist’s deliberative excavation processes, aware that what lies beneath is uncertain, yet drawn to the act of uncovering itself. The process of discovery and witnessing emergence becomes the focus rather than a fixed outcome.

D’Arcy Thompson’s transformation diagrams offer a visual model for Relic Suspension’s process-led approach, tracing how form emerges through changing pressures and relations within its conditions, with transformation itself becoming a method of making.

Relic Suspension holds space for creative practices to unfold with patience and attention, where labor is recognized and allowed to evolve. It values making as an ongoing process.

Through collaborations with thinkers and makers, Relic Suspension brings together personal, cultural, and shared nuances, curating and developing material and contexts into considered bodies of work. Reforming fragments into frameworks for making, resulting in artifacts and experiences shaped through process and exchange.

It works as a living archive and test space, a groundwork for non-linear modes of practice.
Rooted in retrospection and responds to what is still becoming.
